The Ferrara Palio is a historical horse race dating from 1279. As well as the horse race, there are flag throwing competitions and other contests between Ferrara's contrade, or neighborhoods. The races take place every year on the last Sunday of May, which luckily turns out to be the day after our wedding! It's a fantastic experience and we thoroughly recommend staying for it if you can.
The tickets cost 20 euros each. If you'd like us to include you in the block booking for the stands, please let us know how many tickets you'd like (see RSVP card). Otherwise you can try and squeeze in with the masses on the grass banks around the piazza.
It takes place in Piazza Ariostea in the centre of town and starts at 4pm with a historical parade.
